Turkey skips this year’s song contest as TRT is dissatisfied with the current voting format in Eurovision Song Contest. However, news from the country regarding this year’s contest keep coming and now it seems the broadcaster decided to cancel tonight’s semi-final. This is due to the Finnish representative’s kiss with one of the backing vocalists at the end of her performance.
Gay Star News writes on its website that the lesbian kiss is too much for TRT and that’s why they won’t air tonight’s show unlike previously planned. TRT itself says the real reason is low ratings which is weird as a quarter of Turkish population watch the contest annually.
News about Krista’s kiss have spread all over Europe over the last days and before the rehearsals it was speculated whether EBU allows this trick or not. According to the Finnish delegation, however, EBU has nothing against the kiss and it is part of tonight’s performance. Krista herself says the kiss is a statement about her country’s ban on same-sex marriage.
