Immediately after the grand final of the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest, the Finnish broadcaster Yle opened its submission period for Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2014. This format is being used for the third time and its winner gets to represent the country in Copenhagen.
The submission period closed last week and Yle has informed that 420 songs were received on time. Last year some 470 entries were received. Now the broadcaster’s own jury will listen to them all and choose 12 of them to compete in televised pre-qualification heats. The national final will take place in February with eight of them still in the race.
– This will be a very high-quality season, the producer Anssi Autio comments.
Previously Yle announced that one of the most famous Finnish music producers Jukka Immonen will be involved in the competition. He will be assisting the contestants and help them throughout the competition. For Eurovision fans this man is familiar from this year’s song contest as he was co-writing the Belgian entry ‘Love Kills’ for Roberto Bellarosa.
The new jury members will be presented on the 4th of November and UMK 2014 starts on television on December 28th.
