ESC 2014 – who to host it?

Eurovision 2014 hosts

Louise Wolff, Ulla Essendrop, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Christiane Schaumburg-Müller have been tipped to host Eurovision 2014

Now that we know the venue, theme art, motto and in which semi-final the countries will compete, the next question is that who will get to host Eurovision this year? We still don’t know whether there will be only one host as in Malmö or if DR will hire two, three or possibly even more for the job.

DR’s Eurovision Executive Producer Pernille Gaardbo didn’t reveal much when asked about it.

– We are looking forward to get to tell you who will host ESC 2014 when we are ready to reveal it. But until then it is a ‘well-kept state secret’, she comments.

Who could it be?

The Semi-Final Allocation Draw took place in Copenhagen on Monday and the event was hosted by DR’s own hosts and journalists Tine Gøtzsche and Ulla Essendrop. Many said on social media that they would be perfect hosts for Eurovision, too. The ladies themselves also commented this and said that they would accept the offer if they were asked to host it.

A Danish newspaper BT conducted a survey a month ago and asked the casting directors’ opinions. Their favorites were actors Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Sidse Babett and Peter Frödin. The interviewed directors emphasized the importance of the hosts’ English and French skills as well as their experience and charm.

Although it is unlikely to happen, this year’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix hosts have been hinted as well. Louise Wolff and Jacob Riising were announced as the hosts for the Danish pre-selection last week. Wolff has hosted DMGP twice earlier and in 2012, she read out the Danish points in the Eurovision final. Riising is hosting DMGP for his first time, however, he has hosted the kids’ Melodi Grand Prix several times.

Schaumburg-Müller confirms negotiations

Also a Danish actress and hostess Christiane Schaumburg-Müller as well as a former football player Peter Schmeichel are speculated to be on DR’s list. The former has actually now confirmed that she has been in talks with DR and that she has participated the auditions.

– I don’t know when I get the confirmation on whether I was chosen or not, Schaumburg-Müller says and adds that her calendar is already filled with other projects, too.

Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Copenhagen between May 6 and 10.
