Hungarian broadcasting company MTVA first launched its revamped pre-selection format in 2012 and ‘A Dal’ took place also this year. The submission period was open between October and December with a rule stating that songs may only be sung in English, Hungarian or in some of the minority languages of the country.

30 songs were chosen for the televised pre-qualification rounds. 18 of them qualified for the semi-finals eventually eight made it to the national final. In the final, the jury picked four artists for the superfinal round in which the audience only decided who represents the country in Copenhagen.

András Kállay-Saunders

András Kállay-Saunders, 29, rose to fame in 2011 after finishing fourth in a local talent race. Before that he had been living in New York where he was born. Right after the talent race he signed a record contract with Universal and released his first singles which sold very well in Hungary. In 2012 András entered A Dal but only a year later he managed to make it to the televised shows with ‘My Baby’. He came second in the 2013 pre-selection. This year he had more luck and his self-composed entry charmed both, jurors and televoters.
