MOLLY – CHILDREN OF THE UNIVERSE
Composers: Molly Smitten-Downes, Anders Hansson
BBC once again kept the fans in suspense for months before finally confirming in February that they had chosen their representative internally. The artist announcement was filmed on March 2nd and the day later, it was aired on BBC Red Button.
Molly Smitten-Downes, 27, is a newcomer who was found by the BBC Eurovision team from the broadcaster’s BBC Introducing -platform. It gives an opportunity for unsigned newcomers to make their music heard. She was contacted and asked if she would like to represent UK in Eurovision. Molly accepted the offer and has penned her own Eurovision entry, Children of the Universe, together with Anders Hansson, a Swedish songwriter.
Molly may not be a familiar face to the large audience but she is not a complete novice either. In 2008, 2009, she was part of ‘Stunt’ which was a British dance music project. She also collaborated with a Swedish hugely popular DJ/songwriter Basshunter. Molly’s first EP was released in 2011 and she was later awarded The Best Song award at the British Unsigned Music Awards.
