Since their comeback in 2011, RAI has been choosing its representatives internally. This year, however, the artist was not competing in the Sanremo music festival as has been the case in previous years. Emma Marrone was announced the country’s representative in January.

Emma Marrone’s, 29, big breakthrough happened in 2010 when she won a local talent competition Amici. Soon after the victory Emma released her debut solo album which was certified platinum. Despite this being her debut solo album, she had recorded as a part of different groups – in 2003 she won Popstars with Laura Pisu and Colomba Pane forming ‘Lucky Star’. They split up three years later.

Emma has participated Sanremo music festival twice; in 2011 and 2012. She won it in 2012 with ‘Non è l’inferno’ which instantly topped the music charts not only in Italy but also in Switzerland. The same year she was nominated for instance Best Italian Singer in Kids’ Choice Award. Her second studio album was released which was followed by her third one in 2013. They also both were certified platinum.

Eurovision is only one project among others for Emma this year – in July she will start her tour from Verona.
