Selection format

Eesti Laul has become a popular annual television event in Estonia and therefore it was no surprise that ERR used the same pre-selection format again this year. Between October and December, willing songwriters could send their songs to the broadcaster. Soon after the submission period was closed, the broadcaster’s internal jury chose 20 songs to compete in the televised semi-finals. A record-breaking number of 189 demos were received which was some 30 songs more than sent in 2013.

Ten acts were competing in each show and five qualified for the final. Thus, ten songs competed for the victory in the final on March 1st. The final consisted of two voting rounds, in the first round, both, jury and audience voted and Tanja and Super Hot Cosmos Blues Band qualified for the superfinal. Then, a new round started and the audience chose Tanja to represent the country with ‘Amazing’.

Estonia goes for uptempo after two ballads in Estonian. ‘Amazing’ is composed by Tanja herself together with Timo Vendt who has been working with her for 11 years. Tanja’s, 31, career began in 2001 when she started recording music with her friend, forming ‘Nightlight Duo’. They entered the Estonian Eurovision pre-selections in 2002 and 2003 finishing 2nd and 4th.

Tanja’s debut solo album was released three years later – today she has released a total of six albums. Tanja is also a familiar face on the stage of different musicals. She has starred for instance ‘Fame’, ‘Hair’ and ‘Snow White’.
