The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia caused some difficulties for EBU – the issue was where the votes from Crimea go to. Today, the ESC chief Jon Ola Sand confirmed that these votes will be registered as Ukrainian votes. He assures that this decision has nothing to do with politics.

– As it seems now the Ukrainian telecom operators are active in Crimea and it should be so during all the shows next week. We at EBU are not the ones to change these operators.

Therefore Russia can be voted from Crimea but not Ukraine. These two are competing in the same semi-final on Tuesday.
