An Australian singer Jessica Mauboy will be starring the interval act in the second semi-final of Eurovision 2014. The show is themed as ‘Joining the world’ and therefore Australia gets to be part of it. She will be singing a brand new song which will be released right after the performance in digital format.
– There’s a great love for Eurovision in Australia, probably because we have so many Europeans living over there, Julia Zemiro from PBS says.
Jessica didn’t reveal much about her song but it will be an up-tempo and ’empowering, universal song’.
– I’m beyond excited! It’s such an amazing opportunity to make this happen. I first watched the song contest when I was 11 years old and the energy of music made me want to be part of it, Jessica comments.
SBS, the Australian broadcaster, airs Eurovision with a delay over the weekend. Australians also get to vote online for their favorites.
– The viewing figures are really good, last year over 2 million people tuned in for the shows. Last year we made a short clip for the contest about “Why Australians love Eurovision” and when it was aired in Australia, the hashtag #SBSEurovision was the most popular hashtag in the world for a while on Twitter, Paul Clarke answered to the question how popular the contest is in Australia.
SBS will air Junior Eurovision for the second time this year after the great response the show got last year in the country.
