Azerbaijan: “Eurovision shouldn’t be converted into a political arena”

Azerbaijan ArmeniaAzerbaijan’s Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (ITV) has reacted to the Armenian Eurovision 2015 entry. Armenian broadcaster revealed on Thursday that their entry, ‘Don’t Deny’, is to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

The artists of the group called ‘Genealogy’ come from five continents. The sixth member in the middle will be from Armenia. This refers to the forget-me-not flower which is the symbol of Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

Now the Azerbaijani broadcaster has issued the following statement, according to APA;

– This contest can’t be a victim of any country’s political ambitions and converted into a political arena. The Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company state that if the news is confirmed, we will also take appropriate steps in the contest.

The song itself is yet to be announced and it remains to be seen whether direct references to this topic can be found in the lyrics.
