Pertti Kurikan nimipäivät wins UMK

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu culminated in Helsinki on Saturday night. Half of the 18 acts made it to the final through the semi-finals. The winner was chosen by a combination of citizen juries (10%) and televotes (90%). These citizen juries consisted of:

  • Kids
  • LGBT people
  • Taxi drivers
  • Songwriters
  • Media
  • Eurovision fans
  • Finland-Swedes
  • Marthas

Their points were revealed on the show one by one in Eurovision style. Points were given on scale 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12. When these points were combined the scoreboard looked like this:

The audience votes were added to these results when they were converted into percentages. The final results looked like this:

1. Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät 37.4 %
2. Satin Circus 26.3 %
3. Opera Skaala 8.3 %
4. Solju 6.5 %
5. Angelo de Nile 6.3 %
6. Jouni Aslak 4.4 %
7. Norlan el Misionario 4.1 %
8. Shava 3.4 %
9. Järjestyshäiriö 3.3 %

The winner is therefore Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät! Finland competes in the first semi-final in Vienna.

During the show it was confirmed that UMK will return also next year! Submission period for the Finnish pre-selection opens in September.
