Selection format

As usual, Iceland used the national selection Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins to pick their entry for Eurovision. Twelve acts was competing, six acts in the first semifinal and six acts in the second semifinal. Icelandic televoters voted for their top 3 in each semifinal that got tickets to the final. After both semifinals, a expert jury picked the act that got the final spot in the final, a wildcard, out of the acts that did not qualify. These seven finalists was determined into two in a last superfinal, decided by both jury and televoting. Then the winner was finally chosen only by televotes.
María was in the superfinal against Friðrik Dór, and won with 70.774 votes against his 55.850.
