María Ólafs – Unbroken

As usual, Iceland used the national selection Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins to pick their entry for Eurovision. Twelve acts was competing, six acts in the first semifinal and six acts in the second semifinal. Icelandic televoters voted for their top 3 in each semifinal that got tickets to the final. After both semifinals, a expert jury picked the act that got the final spot in the final, a wildcard, out of the acts that did not qualify. These seven finalists was determined into two in a last superfinal, decided by both jury and televoting. Then the winner was finally chosen only by televotes.
María was in the superfinal against Friðrik Dór, and won with 70.774 votes against his 55.850.
María Ólafsdóttir is a 22 year old woman from Iceland, and has most of her musical experience through the stage. She has been a part of several musical plays in Iceland, such as Sound of Music and Ronja The Robber’s Daughter. In 2012 she started working with a songwriting team called StopWaitGo, which is the team behind her Eurovision entry, Unbroken, which also is her very first official song.
María will fight for Iceland in the second semifinal on May 21st.
