Selection format

Traditional music festival Festivali i Këngës took place in December. Some 50 submissions were received and the broadcaster picked 26 of them to compete in the semi-finals. 18 acts made it to the final from the two semi-finals. The winner in the final was chosen by the jury panel. Six out of seven jurors gave their 12 points to Elhaida Dani and her entry ‘Diell’.

However, two months after the final, Elhaida Dani announced that she is forced to change her Eurovision entry. The explanation was that the composer of ‘Diell’ withdrew the rights to enter Eurovision Song Contest with that song. New song was presented a month later, this time in English.
